Framework

The core structure under every relationship

Your relationships are the number one predictor of a long, happy life. School gave you zero classes on them. Everyone else gives you an opinion, and none of them agree.

Why a new framework

The research exists. A guide you can use doesn't. Five gaps keep showing up:

  1. 1Theories describe people, not relationships. For example, attachment style and emotional intelligence tell you about you, not what's happening between you and another.
  2. 2Most are built for couples, so friendship, family, work and the one with yourself get left out.
  3. 3They measure how a relationship feels, not whether it's healthy. A relationship can be loving and still unhealthy.
  4. 4They tell you what matters in general. None of them tell you where your relationship actually stands, from both sides.
  5. 5The ones that do tell you what to do put something in the way first: a therapist, a workshop, a fee.

The framework

10 Universal Blocks

Every healthy relationship is built from the same ten blocks. Anything else builds on them.

Questions we get often

Why isn't awareness a block?

Because it encompasses all ten blocks. Awareness is what lets you catch a block slipping before it breaks. Every one of the ten needs it, which is why it isn't one of them.

Why isn't love or attraction a block?

Love is a reason to build, or an outcome of what you build. A healthy relationship doesn't always have love or attraction, and love or attraction can still exist in an unhealthy one.

Is this only for couples?

No. Some of the most important relationships you'll ever have aren't romantic. A best friend, a sibling, a parent you're still figuring out. The ten hold up in all of them, and in the one you have with yourself.

How is this different from attachment theory or love languages?

Those describe what you bring to a relationship, and that's genuinely useful. The ten describe the relationship itself. You can know your style inside out and still not know whether this one is healthy.
